The Spurgeon’s College Certificate in Theology and Ministry is a full time course (but also available as a part-time Award) which will be taught over 8 residential weekends and 3 block weeks in Birmingham. This course is designed for men and women wanting to train for mission, ministry and leadership alongside working full time in ministry or another context. The course will enable you to start developing the knowledge, skills and character required for Christian service. This is an exciting development for the College as it seeks to encourage those who wish to train but are unable to give up their time to train mid-week.
The course is designed to meet the individual needs of the students through academic, vocational and practical training. The course is available one year full-time or part-time over two years. In addition you will be expected to set aside a study day and contact time with the tutor via Zoom or Online forums.
More details can be found in the programme specification.
3 GCSEs Grades A-C or equivalent
The course begins with an Orientation weekend in September and will be taught through block teaching weekends once a month through to the end of July, involving attendance from Thursday afternoon through to Saturday evening for ministerial training and Friday and Saturday for other units. It requires commitment to a full private study day per week in addition to the hours spent in placement (see below).
Units are assessed by essays, projects and reflections appropriate to a practical, contextual programme, and submitted electronically.
An essential part of the course is to be working in a local church or missional context for up to 21 hours a week. This will enable you to reflect theologically on your practice of ministry alongside your studies.
FUNDING AND PROGRESSION
The course is not university validated, and students are therefore not eligible for Student Finance. However, the units of study are at HE level with the expectation that the credits gained for one or more units of the course may be recognized for credit as Accredited Prior Learning towards a future Spurgeon’s College degree.
Unfortunately we are unable to accept international applications for this course.
