Church Planting and Pioneer Ministry

MTh pathway in Biblical and Theological Studies
COURSE UNIT 470

UNIT DESCRIPTION

The unit begins by analysing recent experience of church planting in order to assess the current situation. The students consider key components of contemporary culture in relation to church planting, with particular reference to post-Christendom and postmodernity. They undertake an overview of the biblical narrative, theological themes and historical examples that are pertinent to locating church planting within a holistic understanding of missiology and to the development of a secure basis for contemporary practice. The unit includes consideration of missiological strategies, methodology and means of assessment relevant to the practice of church planting. The students explore ecclesiological issues that relate both to the development of local congregations and of appropriate denominational structures.
