Worship, Preaching and Pastoral Care

MTh pathway in Biblical and Theological Studies
COURSE UNIT 456

UNIT DESCRIPTION

This unit, intended for ministers in training, explores the disciplines of preaching, leading worship and pastoral theology. It considers a biblical and theological framework as well as the post-modern setting of the Church. Questions about the nature and purpose of the ministerial task are explored. Students critically examine different approaches to preaching, different liturgical traditions and styles, and the place of symbols and sacraments in worship and pastoral care. Resources are provided for the rites of passage, and methods of organising and administering pastoral work are explored. Students are introduced to the theory and practice of preaching.
