Information for External Users of the Library
The facilities of Spurgeon's College Library are available for reference purposes to registered external users. Registration as an external user is open to the following categories of people:
· Local ministers / church leaders / RE teachers
· People involved in full-time or part-time theological study (generally Masters level or higher)
· Former students and staff
Applications to use the Library should be made to the Librarian in writing. Applicants may be required to provide a reference before being accepted as external users. Please note that it is
essential
to telephone/email in advance of a visit. If the Librarian is not available, entry to the Library will not be possible. Because of space problems it may sometimes be necessary to refuse admission to the Library if the number of external users on the register has reached its limit.
Opening Hours
Following the refurbishment of the Library in Summer 2009, the use of study spaces by the College’s current students and staff has increased with the result that it is only possible to offer study facilities to outside users in term time on
Thursdays 9am until 4pm
and on
Fridays from 9am until 12.30pm
. In vacations, times will vary.
External users
must make an appointment before each visit
as, if the Librarian is not available, the Library will not be open to outside users. Before coming to the Library,
visitors should report to Reception
at the General Office (near the front door of the main house)
in order to sign in and obtain a visitor’s pass
. The pass should be returned to the General Office on leaving.
Please note that, if an appointment has not been made before each visit, admission to the Library will unfortunately not be possible.
Charges for use of the Library
No charge is made for a first visit. Subsequent visits are charged as follows:-
Occasional External Users:
(once a week or less frequently)
Annual Fee £40 (or £15 per term)
Regular External Users:
(more than once a week)
£5 per week
Day Visitors:
Full day £5
Half day £3
Once payment has been made an External User's name will be added to the Registration list which is kept at Reception.
