Master's Courses (MA & MTh)

Spurgeon's College offers no fewer than eight Master's courses, five of which lead to a Master in Theology (MTh) degree and three to a Master of Arts (MA) degree. The MTh in Preaching is offered in conjunction with the College of Preachers. This wide range of opportunities provides for more academic interests as well as for the personal development of Christian ministers. For excellent students a Master's degree can be a stepping stone towards doctoral studies (DMin, MPhil, PhD).

The majority of graduate students applying to Spurgeon's College for postgraduate theological study generally fall into three categories:

  • those already possessing a degree in theology and seeking accreditation as Baptist Ministers
  • those with degrees in theology from this College or other institutions who wish to advance their studies
  • those possessing a degree in another discipline and seeking a postgraduate qualification in theology as an entry into theological study.

Whatever is your personal situation, Spurgeon's College almost certainly has the Master’s course for you.

One successful Master's student said,

'This course is one of the best things I have ever done. I needed something like it in the middle of my ministry to ensure that I make the most effective use of the second half of my service for God.'

Your participation will enable you to upgrade your initial training and qualifications by combining a higher level of theological awareness with reflection on your ministerial practice. The range of courses on offer through Spurgeon's College will certainly meet your needs. We will facilitate your understanding of recent developments in church and society, bring you up-to-date with trends in ministry, and enhance the application of theology to your own ministerial practice.

Open Days

These are held on a Saturday in March and November each year and will give you the opportunity to meet members of staff and find out more about the course. You can then discuss your situation without commitment and obtain a good understanding of what student life will be like and the financial implications of coming to Spurgeon's College.
