Many of our former students witness to their days at Spurgeon's as being among the happiest in their lives.
A vibrant spiritual life is vital to our community of staff and students. The Chapel is the focus of daily worship which is led by staff, students and visiting speakers.
We care for our students pastorally throughout their time at Spurgeon's. Students meet weekly with a pastoral tutor because we are committed to creating a supportive environment within which to study. Also, the Placements Co-ordinator and the College Chaplain provide support. Finally, the Principal, as pastoral leader of the College community, is available for students on any matter whether personal, spiritual or academic.
Planned social activities draw us together as a community. The games room, tennis court and extensive grounds offer plenty of scope for sport and leisure activities.
We welcome our students' spouses as part of our community and there are frequent meetings for members of the College family who are not students and live in the vicinity. Many spouses are able to attend College courses on a part time basis for which we offer reduced fees. As one former student spouse said, 'When things have been a struggle, we have felt we have been literally 'carried' at times. Getting to know other students and their spouses and realising that they felt the same really helped.'
The variety of social gatherings makes studying at Spurgeon's both enjoyable and challenging. Many of our former students witness to their days at Spurgeon's as being among the happiest in their lives.
Spurgeon's College offers excellent value in self-contained flats and single student rooms.
For many of our full-time students, coming to College means moving home. For those with families, this can be a challenging time, knowing that within a relatively short period, the family will be on the move again.
College-based students are accommodated either in single rooms on site or in self-contained flats very near to the College. Living in College allows access to all the amenities on site and college-based students are right at the heart of our community. The rent is just a fraction of that charged by other landlords in London and represents excellent value for money. All single rooms have access to the College computer network and share kitchen, bathroom and lounge facilities. Lunch is provided each weekday and weekends are self-catering.
Church-based students are provided with accommodation by their placement church for the whole period of their course. For their days in College each week, overnight bed-and-breakfast facilities are available on site offering students outstanding value for money.
Our aim is always to provide 'home from home' accommodation that is both comfortable and affordable. Some of the rooms have recently been refurbished and this programme of improvement is ongoing.
