Peter Morden was born in Worthing, Sussex, on the south coast of England. He became a Christian when a teenager and studied history at university in Swansea, where he was heavily involved in the Christian Union. Peter subsequently worked as a secondary school teacher for four years. In 1991 he came to Spurgeon’s College to train for Baptist ministry, obtaining a first class degree. He then worked as Associate Pastor at Victoria Baptist Church Eastbourne (1995-2000) and as Senior Pastor of Shirley Baptist Church, Solihull (2000-2007).
Peter joined the staff at Spurgeon’s College in 2007 as tutor in Church History and Spirituality. He is now also one of the College chaplains. He has a passion for equipping students for practical ministry and mission. Evangelical history and evangelical spirituality, and how these relate to ministry today, are his main research interests and he has written a range of articles and books on these themes. In 2010 he completed PhD research on the spirituality of Charles Haddon Spurgeon which has been published as Communion with Christ and his People. He has also written a more 'popular' biography of Spurgeon which was published in 2009. He was historical consultant for the award winning docudrama 'C.H. Spurgeon: The People's Preacher' and has written and presented a home group resource which draws on the film, entitled 'Growing Together with C.H. Spurgeon - The People's Preacher'. Peter is a Fellow of the Centre for Baptist History and Heritage, Regent's Park College, Oxford, and in 2011 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
