John E. Colwell BD PhD

John Colwell joined the full-time staff at Spurgeon’s College in 1994 where initially he was responsible for the setting up of the Master’s course in Applied Theology. Between 1995 and 1996 he was tutor in Systematic Theology and from 1996 until 2009 he was tutor in Christian Doctrine and Ethics. He served as Dean from 1999 until 2002 and as Director of postgraduate studies 1999-2009. John supervised research in areas of historical, systematic, philosophical and pastoral theology. He is now a Senior Research Fellow of the College.

John maintains a broad general interest in questions of hermeneutics and epistemology but is especially concerned to explore the integration of doctrine, ethics, and the spiritual disciplines.
