Training as a Baptist minister
Ian Randall MA MPhil PhD FRHistS

Ian Randall was born in the north of Scotland. At University in Aberdeen, where he met Janice, his wife, he studied economics and history. He then worked in personnel management for companies in the south of England. In 1980 he felt the call to Baptist Ministry and trained at Regent's Park College, Oxford. He then held pastorates in Wraysbury, near Staines, and in Windsor.

Ian joined the staff at Spurgeon's College in 1992, and was the tutor in church history and spirituality until 2007. He was also Deputy Principal for part of that time. From 1999 to 2002 he was seconded to the International Baptist Theological Seminary (IBTS) in Prague, Czech Republic. He is currently Director of Research at Spurgeon's and Senior Research Fellow of IBTS.

Evangelical history, especially in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, has been Ian's main field of interest. A particular focus has been on movements of evangelical spirituality and their relationship to mission and social action. He has written several books and many articles and has edited a number of volumes.

Ian and Janice have been involved together in ministry. Janice teaches English as a second language. They live in Cambridge and have two grown-up daughters.
